Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a method of assessment that considers learners prior qualifications against another qualification, in order to ascertain whether a student may be eligible for part accreditation from previous study.

To be considered for RPL, we require a copy of the following evidence:

Certificate - displaying your name, qualification, awarding body and qualification type
Transcript - including a list of modules achieved
Syllabus - this is a detailed specification outlining the content of your qualification

All evidence submitted must be in English. Please note failure to provide all evidence will result in your RPL rejection.

Once submitted, we will contact you to inform you of the outcome.

FAQ

What framework do Pearson currently deliver?

RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework).

I have a HNC, can I top up onto the HND?

To be eligible for a Pearson HND you must have a valid RQF HNC, within the same subject. Example: HNC RQF Electrical and Electronic Engineering, eligible top up HND RQF Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

I have an RQF HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering qualification, can I top up onto an RQF HND Mechanical Engineering qualification?

This is against Pearson qualification regulations, due to the unique blend of core/specialist modules specific to each engineering course. We may transfer a maximum of 50% (4 units) onto another RQF HNC engineering course.

How do I check which framework my qualification was completed within?

Please refer to page one of your certificate – this is listed next to your qualification title.

My previous qualification is not from the RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework). Can I be considered for RPL?

Yes, we may review your evidence against the current RQF HNC. Please provide a copy of all evidence so we may review your eligibility.

Can I use credits from a variety of courses to reduce the amount of work I complete on my HNC?

RPL consideration is based on relevance of subject, credit exchange cannot be considered.

I have an HNC from the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA), can I transfer to UniCourse?

Yes, however, please be advised the SQA syllabus is different to that here at UniCourse. We may only view modules at SQA level 7 as this is the equivalent of the level 4 HNC delivered here at UniCourse. RPL will be based on the relevance of subjects.

I completed my qualification several years ago, can this be considered for RPL?

We may receive qualifications that have been completed within the last 10 years.

I have a degree in another field of engineering, can I bypass the HNC?

No, Pearson require learners to have a valid RQF HNC. Qualifications are not reviewed by credit/UCAS points. Pearson qualification mapping is based on relevance of subjects. We may however consider your qualification for RPL. Please see above for a breakdown of the evidence we require to review your eligibility.
