International Youth Day – 12th August 2021

Today marks International Youth Day, an initiative created to gain an insight into young people’s participation in society. With an 87% increase of 18–24-year old’s enrolling on one of our distance-learning courses in 2020 compared to 2019, it is clear that young people are becoming more drawn to the concept of online learning. With advantages such as being a more affordable option than traditional learning and having no exams or set assignment deadlines, UniCourse is the perfect, flexible option for those wanting to kick start their career by gaining a fully accredited Pearson Edexcel qualification.

This rise mirrors the proportion of young people considering an engineering career; increasing from 37% in 2016 to 45% in 2020. Reasons for this include a high starting salary, incredible graduate employment prospects and utilising skills and expertise to positively contribute to society.

To celebrate International Youth Day this year, we have spoken to some of our youngest graduates to gain perspective on their experience of completing an online course with us. Max was 19 when he began his Edexcel HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering course with us, and has stated that enrolling at a young age meant that he could quickly grasp the course content. This was because he had just completed his BTEC Level 3, so he could seamlessly transition onto a higher level without revisiting core engineering topics. Max also found that he could maintain his work and social life while continuing his education due to our courses’ flexible nature, allowing the HNC to be more enjoyable and relieving much of the stress he associated with deadlines.

Another HNC Engineering graduate of ours, Ciaran, was 21 when he enrolled with us and would have struggled to gain his qualification without our affordable course fees and flexible payment plans. This was because his previous apprenticeship would not fund him to complete the course, and local colleges were charging up to £9,000 a year for the same qualification. Ciaran then discovered UniCourse, and found that he could complete the work at his own pace at a drastically reduced cost, and went on to secure his current job role.

Molly was 23 when she joined UniCourse to study her HNC Engineering course. She expressed that she finished the course in six months while gaining a full engineering wage, rather than spending two years in college studying on an apprenticeship salary. She is now looking to progress onto an HND with us to fast-track her career further.

With September just around the corner, now is the perfect time to sign up for one of our courses if you are still debating your next step. To discover more about UniCourse, please call us on 0151 236 1982 or email us at enquiries@unicourse.org.
